An 80-year old man buried alive, body exhumed. Eight arrested.
Meghalaya police arrested eight people into the suspected case of witch-hunt where Nongstoin police exhumed the body of an 80-year-old man who was recently buried alive by his relatives over the suspicion that he practiced witchcraft at a village in West Khasi Hills.
According to police, the body was found with hands and legs tied and face covered was exhumed on Monday from a 5-feet deep pit in the Mawliehbah Mawnar village.
The incident happened on October 7.
“The incident took place on October 7 and in connection with the case we have arrested eight people. We are investigating the case and sent the body for post mortem,” said a police officer.
Home minister Lakhmen Rynbui appealed to people not to take law into their own hands. He said “witch hunt” is not a new thing in Meghalaya last week it happened in West Khasi Hills side.
